28th Feb -0 high cloud, light rain by mid-afternoon, light S, 11C

A busy day.  I did see a Kestrel hunting over a field margin near the Copston junction along the Coal Pit Lane.

27th Feb - another frost last night. Sunny, mod SE, 10C, but feeling cool in the wind

Shawell sandpit/landfill; am.  a couple of {Pochard with the Tufted Ducks, three Shelducks, three Lapwings.  A couple of Red Kite and two Buzzards.  A Great Spotted Woodpecker was drumming in the spinney. c10 Snipe in the mid-bog area flying about.

Stanford reservoir, pm.   three Goosanders, 13 Shoveler, a Little grebe, Grey Wagtail pair in spillway, a Jay near the Leics feeder, a few Redwing and Fieldfares around.

Stanford-on Avon; pm.  The three White-fronted Geese were in the monument field with Canada and Greylag Geese.

26th Feb - light frost last night. mostly sunny, mod S, easing later afternoon,10C, feeling cool

Willey; the occasional Chaffinch song can be heard now, plus Greenfinch song first thing. 
Three Yellowhammers were in the bird feeder paddock today.

Lilbourne Meadows, a Stonechat pair at the 'reeded' ditches, A5 end, Fieldfares, Redwings and Starlings on the pastures here.
Water meadows, a Curlew was feeding, plus 5 Lapwings, Teal, Shoveler, Wigeon, Coot and Moorhen.

A few record shots of the Curlew, unfortunately looking directly in to the sun, but you can see it's a Curlew!



Shawell Lagoons; A Shelduck, c200 Teal, 31+ Shoveler, Tufted 17, Mallard, 2, a few 'large' Gulls, bit mostly Black-headed and Common Gulls.  10+ ravens, 6 Red Kites and the Peregrine flew around again, landing out of view.

25th Feb - sunny spells, mod W, 9C

23rd Feb - mod SW, sunny spells, odd brief shower, 9C

Harborough Magna; I checked the sunflower field c 1415h.  c100 Bramblings, c30 Chaffinches,  Kestrel - female, plus a few Redwings and Starlings.

22nd Feb - sunny periods, 9C, light SW

No obs today.

Except, about 2115h a Tawny Owl was heard towards the old railway line behind the village

20th - cloudy, light rain, then heavy pm, mod/fresh/gusty SW, 11C

WIlley; a Goldcrest singing again in the Church Yew this morning, a Grey Wagtail flying around.  Later several Long-tailed Tits at the feed station, a couple of Chaffinch, four House Sparrows, plus Blue and Great Tits.

Soar Brook Lake; WeBS count. three Little Grebe, a few Wigeon and several Greylag/Canada Geese, otherwise not much else.  the recent weather seems to have driven birds away.

Mere Lane Lake; WeBS count. Fifteen Tufted Duck, a few Coot, Moorhen and Little Grebe.

Shawell sandpit; a Peregrine flew around, interestingly not disturbing the duck present at all.

19th Feb - steady rain from mid-morning until early afternoon, light becoming mod SW-S wind, gusty a bit later, warming to 8C

Magna Park Lake; am. several Tufted Duck and Mallard, a Little Grebe, Coots and a Moorhen, a couple of Song Thrushes singing near-by.

Shawell Sandpit/Landfill; pm.  Three Shelduck, 218 Teal, 29 Shoveler, 20 Wigeon, Six Lapwings, a Little Grebe. 

c10 Ravens, four Red Kites, c10 Linnets feeding.

18th February - Storm Eunice passed through today.

Strong winds Westerly - 35mph, with gusts - 50 mph, showers at times. 9C but cooling pm.

17th Feb - sunny spells, mod-fresh W, 10C

Lilbourne wet meadows; pm.  c100 Wigeon, Teals, Shovelers, single Gadwall, a Stock Dove and single Fieldfare.

Stanford Hall, plenty of Canada Geese but few Greylags found in the area, which may explain why the White-fronted Geese could not be found today.  Four Little Grebes on the lake. Near the entrance a Great Spotted Woodpecker was drumming and Mistle Thrush feeding on the parkland.

16th Feb - sunny spells am, becoming cloudy, mod SW/W increasing pm, mod-strong -gusty, 14C

Shawell sandpit/landfill; unfortunately, probably due to the wind, there was no tipping occurring today, so Gull numbers were very low indeed.

The Shelduck pair was present, plus the other usual ducks.  A Little grebe was also feeding in the sandpit area.  Raven 10+ and six Red Kites. c20 Linnets were feeding in the rough weedy area.

15th Feb - light rain most of the day, mod SW, 7C

14th Feb - occasional shower, mod W, 7C

Harborough Magna -  am. checked the sunflower field.  a couple of flocks of Linnets flew in to join those already there, c200 in total, c 15 Brambling, c30 Chaffinch, a Great Spotted Woodpecker in the trees nearby.

SHawell sandpit/landfill, am.  A look here before the weather deteriorated.  Three Shelduck, Gadwall pair, three Lapwing, Teal 100+, Shoveler 30, Mallards, 29 Pied Wagtails, Ravens around, a Fox was wandering about.

12th Feb - cloudy, mod-gusty S, 9C, feeling much colder

Shawell sandpit/landfill area; am. A Shelduck and gadwall pair, 16 Shovelers, plenty of Teal, several mallards and Tufted Ducks.  Plenty of Common and Black-headed Gulls, few larger Gulls though.  Five Red Kites and c20 Ravens.

Charlecote; pm.  I had heard of a feeding site near here that was attracting plenty of Finches/Buntings and decided to take look, despite the windy conditions and having never been before.  12 Brambling, c40 Chaffinch, c 10 Yellowhammers, 5 Corn Buntings, 4 Linnets

11th Feb - sunny spells, light SW, 7C

Stanford Hall; pm. A check here for the White-fronted Geese, there was plenty of Wigeon around the two lakes, but not too many Canada or greylag Geese.  I checked the monument field, the same, then I checked the corner field near the bridge and that's where they were - busy grazing among the Greylag Geese.

Stanford reservoir; a look around the dam area and Blowers Lodge Bay - nothing new, pretty quiet really.  One drake Shoveler and  21 Goldeneye were gathering together, the drakes displaying a lot now.

WIlley; late morning four Bullfinch (2 pair) were feeding in the thick Church Lane hedge.

Stanford reservoir; pm. highlights were Red Kite 1, gadwall 71, Goldeneye 24, Treecreeper.

5th Feb - frost last night. Sunny, becoming cloudy, wind increasing mod/blustery SW, 9C

WIlley; 0815h a Little Egret flew over low westward.

Shawell Sandpit/landfill; am. a male Stonechat was feeding on the reedy area.  A nice selection of waterfowl today - Mallard, Shelduck, Gadwall, Wigeon, Teal, Tufted Duck, Egyptian Geese (pr), Canada Geese and Mute Swans.  Four Red Kites, Green Woodpecker and a drumming Great Spotted Woodpecker.  c10 Linnets on the weeds.

Gulls were disappointing. a larger number left, whilst those at the landfill never came to the sandpit whilst I was there.  

A5 Pools/DIRFT; not much here - too windy.

Lilbourne Wet Meadows; Three Gadwall, Teal, Shoveler, two Greylags and Kestrel.  A few Redwings and Fieldfares feeding on the meadows, also a Song Thrush.

A good number of Redwings and Fieldfares were spooked from the adjacent Church lane fields and disused railway when hedge trimming was commenced  there this morning.

Willey, first thing 300+ Redwings/Fieldfares feeding on the pastures to the east of the village.

Lilbourne Wet Meadows; pm.  Shovelers, Teals, Mallards and Wigeon all present.   A Buzzard sitting in a tree,

Stanford Hall Park;  The three White-fronted Geese still present.  Two Little Grebes on the Lake and a Nuthatch calling near the main gates.

1st Feb - sunny spells, light-mod W-NW 12C

Willey; two Ravens, 1000h, around Hurls Furlong - Barn Fields Sheep fields then settled in trees before heading off.
