29th Feb- cloudy, 9C, light WNW

Lilbourne Meadow; afternoon.

Shoveler, Gadwall, Teal, Mallard, Wigeon, a Little Grebe, Lapwing c20


Stanford-on-Avon;

The Cattle Egret was feeding in the field flood pools, along with Black-headed and Common Gulls, Canada and Greylag Geese.

28th Feb - cloudy, dull, drizzle /light showers pm, 8C

 No obs today to report except the Pied Wagtail pair is back inspecting the old roof tiles where they often nest.

Willey;
A busy day, but I did notice a Carrion Crow pestering a Kestrel flying just west of the houses and a couple of Fieldfares stopped off in the top of the Church Horse chestnut tree for a rest.

26th Feb - mostly sunny am, with cloud increasing and isolated short wintry showers around. Mod-brisk NE, 7C

No obe today.

25th Feb - Frost last night -1C, sunny am, becomonh cloudy with light shower during afternoon, mod Easterly, 7C

Lilbourne Meadows; morning
No Stonechats found today.
Three Shelducks, Little Egret, 2 Little grebes, usual ducks..
c100 Starlings, a male Reed Bunting, c6 Goldfinches. 

Three Roe Deer seen. they all appear to be hinds, I wonder if there is a buck here too?  They are penned in here by roads and development, but I guess they do wander over the country too.





Stanford-on Avon,; lake and monument field area, afternoon.

A Cattle Egret was on the Hall lake island, with several Grey Herons.
Interestingly, 2 Oystercatchers were sitting on an overhanging branch at the lake too.
Plenty of Back-headed and Common Gulls on the fields.

A Sparrowhawk, 6 Goldeneye, a Goosander drake, 2 Shovelers.
Two Jays, mixed flock of Fieldfares/Redwings and Starlings about.

24th Feb - frost -2C last nightmostly sunny, 8C, very light WSW

Didn't do any birding as such today as I visited a vintage show mat Malvern.

I did notice two things, 1) that the Rooks were busy building next to the showground and 2) that there seems a reasonable number of Rockeries in the villages/towns that you pass through on the way, not unusual in built-up areas, it just seemed lots more like this down there than around here.

21st Feb - heavy rain until midday, then cloudy with drizzle until later afternoon. 12C, mod-blustery SW

Terribly wet again - relentless!

Stanford reservoir; afternoon.

A short visit around the dam end, not much showing.  A Grey Heron, a Red Kite.

Pink-footed Goose, with Greylags, in pasture field opposite Stanford Lodge.

All the regular ducks, c50 Lapwings, 2 Stock Doves, c10 Fieldfares.

19th Feb - Cloudy, light SW, 12C

WIlley; a Red Kite over eastward, 1000h.

Soar Brook Lake; morning.
A Little Grebe 'trilling', 19 Wigeon a few Mallard, Moorhen and Coot.  6 Greylags and 2 Canada Geese.



Several Bees have been seen about at the various locations, over the last few mild days - certainly many  more than usual.

18th Feb - sunny spells, 13C, light WSW

Very wet again last night, over an inch, everywhere flooded and saturated still.  Worms have had enough many on the surface in Perkins fields!

38 Coot counted, 129 Lapwings, otherwise similar species as yesterday.

At feed station Great Spotted Woodpecker, Stock Dove, 8 House Sparrows, 2 Greenfinch, Great Spotted Woodpecker.  c50 Fieldfares over north.

Green Woodpecker on lawn.

[Mistle Thrush still singing first thing from BH wood].

15th Feb - sunny spells am, mostly cloudy/odd shower pm, light WSW, 13C

Shawell sandpit/landfill; afternoon.
A good number of Gulls but no 1W Glaucous seen.  10 Red Kites, Ravens, 14 Shovelers, 2 Pochard, 26 Tufties, Teal, a Little Grebe, 120 Lapwing, and a Green Woodpecker heard.

Lilbourne Meadows;
c300 Wigeon, 16 Gadwall, 12 Shoveler, Lapwing 17, Teal.  A Curlew was heard.

c40 Starlings, c30 Fieldfare, c5 Redwings.

14th Feb - cloudy, light SW, 12C

15th Feb - cloudy, v mild Southerly, 15C

Willey;
On the feed station were 8 Greenfinches, 2 Chaffinch, a Yellowhammer (m) and a Coal Tit, the latter I've not seen for a while at the feeders).

Lilbourne Meadows; later afternoon.
The drake Pintail was seen again.  Otherwise plenty of Wigeon, Teal,  Gadwall and Shoveler.
Lapwing c70.  A few Redwings and Fieldfares were around, and c35 Starlings dropped in on the way to roost.

Wigeon c80, 133 Greylags, numerous Gulls.



Lilbourne Meadows;

Female Pintail again, Stonechat pair in usual place, Grey Heron, Kestrel (male), Little Egret 1, plus the other usual ducks.

10th Feb - some light rain showers, very light ESE, brighter later

A Sparrowhawk, flew along the church lane.
Great-spotted Woodpecker, 8 House Sparrows, 4 Greenfinch, 3 Chaffinch at the paddock feed station.

Magna Park lake; WeBS.
A 'redhead' Goosander, first record here for me.  Little Grebe and Tufted Ducks.
Six each of Siskin and Goldfinch feeding in lake side Alder.
Four Jays 'squabbling' together.

Stanford Hall lake and area; afternoon.
Two great White Egrets, a Cattle Egret, four Grey Herons. Wigeon, Teal, Mallard and a Tufted,Canada and Greylags.

9th Feb - cloudy, rain till early pm, 8C, light S

Shawell Sandpit/landfill; late afternoon.

A Glaucous Gull was found by Carl about lunch time, but I could not make it.  I did get there about 1530h and it was said to have flown out of sight towards the landfill from the sandpit.  Eventually the Gull massed on the plateau flew up and luckily I managed to spot the juv Glaucous and watch it in flight before it departed with other Gulls, presumably to roost at Draycote res.
A super looking bird, quite pale and 'big'!

8th Feb - Wet, 15 mm by evening, only 4C with mod easterly

Not a nice day at all.

Stanford reservoir; afternoon.

Not much showing, 8 Goldeneye were in Blowers Lodge Bay feeding and displaying, otherwise the water was not holding much and quite rough.

A Great-s[potted Woodpecker flew between trees near the dam.

WIlley; the Rooks were very noisy and busy around the Long Spinney Rookery today.

c350 Wigeon, maybe the most I've seen here this winter.,  Also, the drake Pi tail was showing again on the middle pool.  

Shoveler 15, Gadwall 10+, Teal c60.

4th Feb - cloudy, mod/breezy SW, 13C

A Red Kite over the village 1130h.

A Mistle Thrush singing again this morning from BH wood 

Lilbourne Meadows; morning.

The Stonechat pair still in their usual area.  Plenty of Mallard, Wigeon, Teal and Shoveler on the flood pools.  Plus a female Pintail (the drake was not seen today, but may have been in a unviewable area. Two Little Egrets on the meadow pools.

A Red Kite over, a Song Thrush singing.



Rutland Water; afternoon.

Six Scaup (one adult male) and a redhead Smew on Lagoon 4.  c25 Golden Plover with Lapwings too.
All the regular ducks, including 4 Shelducks on L3.
Two Great Egrets on L1, one feeding with Phesaants around it.. 




3rd Feb - mostly cloudy, drizzle pm, 13C, mostly light SW

 Shawell sandpit/landfill; morning.

Among the Gulls, 3 Caspians picked-up by Carl.  Otherwise the regular birds, a Song Thrush was singing from the spinney.

2nd Feb - sunny spells, light, becoming breezy, W, 14C

Willey; Nuthatch hard again, Long Spinney near allotments.

Stanford Hall; afternoon.
A good number of Canada and Greylag Geese feeding, c100 Wigeon.
Red Kite and Buzzard over.
Green Woodpecker heard.

later, a Great White Egret was seen in roosting with the Grey Herons on the island (1715h).

7 Goosanders, 3 Little Grebes, otherwise just the regulars.
8 Stock Doves on adjacent arable field, a Red Kite and 2 Buzzards over.
