The water level in the sandpit area is being reduced, which may prove attractive eventually in the new year to waders, certainly in the Spring when we get there.

Monday 14 December 2020

14th Dec - sunny periods, light S, 10C

Sunday 13 December 2020

13th Dec- Rain just about all day (6.5 mm by 2000h), light -increasing pm, SSE, 8C.

 Cotesbach Landfill; I had a look here in morning and lighter rain, however therre was very little present which was a bit unusual, but with no tipping and reduced water level in the sandpit area maybe not surprising.  Of course the ever present Red Kites were noted.

Although the weather had brightened showers were still occurring locally as witnessed by this 'hanging'  portion of a rainbow.

Friday 11 December 2020

11th Dec - cloudy, a few light showers am, broken cloud pm, light W, 9C

Cotesbach Landfill;
Yesterday I managed to read another colour ring this time on a Lesser Black-back Gull - N8CT- again from the Thames group again, it was aged as a fifth year  or older when ringed.   this is the second times it has been seen since ringing, again at Cotesbach Landfill.  The details are:

11 Jun 2016Pitsea Landfill Site, Essex
Sighted15 Dec 2018Cotesbach Landfill Site, Leics
Sighted10 Dec 2020Cotesbach Landfill Site, Leics

Stanford reservoir; I did have a walk here during the afternoon, it was particularly quite.  I did here a Bearded Tit, but didn't see it.

Thursday 10 December 2020

10th Dec - cloudy, mist and drizzle pm, light SE, cool, 6C

 Cotesbach Landfill;

The colour ringed Herring Gull I saw in the 7th Dec was Z1WT, it was ringed by the North Thames Gull Group, aged as a 4th year or older adult, details are:

15 Oct 2016                                    Pitsea Landfill Site, EssexRinged
Sighted05 Jan 2017Beddington SF, Greater London
Sighted07 Dec 2020Cotesbach Landfill Site, Leics

A look after lunch today, light conditions were deteriorating as fine drizzle set-in, however Gull numbers were very good, so hopefully soon 'white-wingers' will appear.  News is that a 1000 Iceland Gulls have been seen in the Faroes, next stop the UK!

There was an adult Yellow-legged Gull and a blue/white CR Lesser Black-backed Gull nearby that I could not read.
