8th Dec - windy early morning, becomig sunny, moderate SW, 12C, showers late afternoon.

Willey; a look at the feed station this morning was rather disappointing with few birds, maybe the wind was too much.  It was noticeable that the berries on the Yew tree and Holly trees have taken a big hit over the last few days.  Redwings were continually coming and going to the Church Yews, c20 Starlings joined in, as well as 2 Mistle Thrush, Blackbirds and Song thrushes.

Cotesbach Landfill; Carl called this morning saying he had found the first Glaucous Gull, a juvenile, of the winter.  Last year a juvenile appeared on the 9th December, so a day earlier this year, which is interesting as so far there has not been many reports of Glaucous Gulls in the UK.

7th Dec - rain early, clearing to sunny spells pm, light- mod SW, 10C

Willey; busy day, I did notice 7 Mute Swans flew over low, southward.

6th Dec - rain at times, cloudy, dull, 12C, light-mod SW

Draycote Water; the sign shows the reservoir to be just below 75% full - in December really!  Went to meet the warden, but managed a short walk along the bank, not too much to see, spotting with rain and windy.  10+ Meadow Pipits and a few Pied Wategtails.  The usual common duck, several Little Grebe and distance Goosanders. I spotted a Pheasant, a new site record for me here.

Stanford Reservoir; I had a walk here during the afternoon, which was very dismal and cloudy.  A Great White Egret was hunting in the Keepers Lodge Bay (later a second was along the inlet river with a couple of Little Egret).  About 100 Fieldfare were feeding on the paddock Hawthorn bushes, with a few Redwings too. On the water the usual winter duck, I counted 21 Goldeneye.  We currently have quite large flocks of Canada and Grey Lag Geese present. Hoping they pull in a scarcer Goose species.

5th Dec - rain early, cloudy, dull, light rain on - off all day, 10 C

No obs today.

4th Dec - frost last night, cloudy, light SW, 6C

Willey. a busy day with few obs made. However, a Goldcrest was in the Church Yew tree, not heard it singing for a while. A Kestrel was sitting atop an Ash tree to the west of the village mid-day. Late afternoon 2 noisy Jays were in the old railway trees.

Winter Thrush numbers are still notably low, the Yew and Holly Trees have only a few bird, mostly Redwing, visiting them for the berries.

3rd Dec - rain toill mid morning, then clearing, light SW, 9C

Brandon Marsh; this afternoon a visit here, notable sightings included 2 Bewick and 4 Whooper Swans that have been on East Marsh for several days.  A good number of Teal and Lapwings, plus a single female Goldeneye were present too.  On Teal pool a Little Egret was hunting and a Sparrow Hawk dashed by.  In the dead trees I counted 41 Stock Dove.

2nd Dec - continued

Pitsford reservoir; 11 Whooper Swans were also present, including a couple of juveniles.

All the usual winter duck were also present including a drake Red-crested Pochard. Other birds included a flock of Great WHite Egret, Grey Heron, Lapwings and a Stonechat.  25+ Chaffinch, Yellowhammer and several Tree Sparrows were at the feed station.
