2nd July - Sunny intervals, showers pm, some heavy, westerly breezy at times, 18C

I visited Shawell lagoons this afternoon, not too many gulls were present, however the first juvenile Black-headed Gull of the year showed up. these juvenilles are smashing looking birds.

Also present was an adult Yellow-legged Gull, not unusual here, but an arrival from possibly Portugal.  Two second summer YLGs were also among the lesser-black Gulls and Herring Gulls.

An Oystercatcher flew in and stayed for a while, feeding along the edge with a Pied Wagtail.  During a heavy shower two Cormorants came in and rested on the shore.  A couple of Mute Swans and 13 Tufted Duck were on the water, while a few Sand Martins flew above, these are nesting in the nearby sand quarry.

A Lesser Whitethroat and Chiffchaff were singing, a Green Woodpecker called several times but not seen.
