3rd Oct - ground frost, chilly start, high cloud, light SE, 12C

Willey; a single Swallow on the wires, and a couple round the fields first thing. Mid-day 4 over the village and about 1700h 6 on the telegraph wires.

At mid-day I decided to begin filling the paddock feeders for the autumn/winter and wasn't expecting much activity, but within 30 mins the feeders were fully of birds, Blue and Great Tits (15+), 2 Greenfinch, Nuthatch (2), Magpie, Robin, House Sparrow (6+) - so looking good.

In the Church lane hedge a party of Long-tailed Tits, a male Blackcap feeding.

Then a small flock, 15, of Redwing flew past and landed in trees, a little later another flock, 20, flew over low heading SW.

Stanford reservoir; a look here this afternoon.  2 Green Sandpipers on the field pool, 20 Swallows and 5 Sand Martins overhead, 6+ Chiffchaffs, 11 Shoveler, Red Kite, Sparrowhawk, Kestrel, Jay 2, Great spotted Woodpecker, Willow Tit, Raven over calling, 3 Little Egret, 40+ Meadow Pipits on the adjacent weedy field, 3 Grey Wagtails.
