18th May - sunny periods, 17C, clouding over late pm

This morning I saw a Fox dash away when it spotted me, it had been hunting Rabbits along the hedgerow.  Later in the morning I found 2 Frogs in the Vegetable garden, handy to have around.

Shawell Lagoons; this morning the Whooper Swan was present with 4 Mute Swans.  A couple of Great-crested Grebes were on the water and a Shelduck was roosting on the shore.  A Green Woodpecker flew passed while Chiffchaff, Whitethroat, Willow Warbler and Blackcap were all singing.

Bittesby Mere Lane lake area; the Mute Swan pair appear to have lost their nest, not sure what happened to it.  There are plenty of Reed Warblers around the lake this year, but few if any Sedge Warblers.  A male Reed Bunting was singing, along with other Warblers and a Goldcrest.  A Jay called loudly from the bushes.  A few orangetip butterflies were around.

Stanford reservoir;  things were fairly quite this afternoon compared with yesterday, no passage waders were present nor the Jack Snipe.  The biggest surprise was a White-fronted Goose that I saw for a short while before it flew off westward, well out of season.  The Cuckoo was still calling and a Yellow Wagtail flew over in to the neighbouring field.
