1st Oct - broken cloud, a few sunny spells, light S, 14C

Willey; At least five Swallows over the village midday.

In one of the storage sheds I have found a heap of 'moth wings', half were in a trough and the rest next to the trough. The moths have clearly been taken to this spot and the body eaten, leaving the wings behind.  The majority of wings seen to be of one species.  I assume it must be a mammal that is doing this, however I have put the camera out for a couple of nights and got nothing, will try again.

Frolesworth manor lake;  a single House Martin was flying around, a couple of Great-crested Grebes, a few Tufted Duck, Mallard, Moorhen and Coot on the lake.  A meadow Pipit on the farmland and a group of Blackbirds in the hedgerow.  Otherwise, not a lot happening.  A fisherman showed me a photo of a Snipe that was present last week sitting on the bankside.

Cotesbach landfill;  Ruff and Green Sandpiper both still present in the sand pit area.

The photos are of the old sand pit area where the water level has dropped a lot exposing much mud and islets.

Stanford reservoir; a Stonechat present near the dam and three House Martins around, otherwise just the other regulars.
