Shawell Lagoons; this morning a Common Gull was with the Black-headed Gulls, these should increase in numbers from now onwards.
Cotesbach Landfill; Eight Red Kites, two Green Sandpipers and an adult Little Ringed Plover were notable. The Greylag Goose flock has increased to 83.
Stanford Reservoir; this afternoons walk turned out to be interesting. I had just arrived and Chris called to say another birder (Chris B) had reported a ‘bright green’ Warbler near the Poplars. I was going to go that way eventually so would investigate. First checking the dam area, two Common Sandpipers, three Little Egret were notables here.
On my way round generally quite, a few of the common Warblers, a pair of Kestrels otherwise nothing special. At the Poplars all was quiet and I walked towards the point trees/bushes and waited. Eventually Long-tailed Tits, Chiffchaffs, Willow Warblers and other passerines were becoming active in this area, there was quite a few birds present. A checking each bird that showed for half an hour I was thinking nothing else would show, then a ‘green’ Warbler with a prominent yellow supercillium flew on to a dead beach area giving a short but long enough view to confirm a Wood Warbler. I informed Chris, who came but but we were not able to see it again. The first record here since 1999.
Walked back round Blowers Lodge Bay a Osprey made an appearance before heading off SE. In the spillway 10 Yellow Wagtails. A Hobby was also spotted whilst searching for the Wood Warbler.
