13th June - high cloudy, a few sunny spells, humid pm, 20C

Willey; A Lesser Whitethroat and Whitethroat were singing in their territories to the east of the village.  In early Spring a Blackbird nested in the garden Clenatis shrub, having not seen any young yet I had assumed the nest had been predated, but the Blackbirds were still around with the male very actively defending his space and singing everyday.  Anyway, today the female Blackbird was very busy building a nest, again in the Clematis, hopefully more success this time.

Stanford reservoir;  a lot here this evening, no new birds, although Chris did a Curlew early evening, which had long gone.  Lots of Blue, Great and Long-tailed Tit families feeding in the bushes, also young Reed Warblers sitting in the low foliage calling.  The Cetti's Warbler sang a couple of times.  At least 6 Garden Warbkers were singing in just one area, such a lovely song.  Just the usual birds on the water, even more young Mallards.  This year with the dry Spring the ducks should have bred well and not have been drowned out like recent years.  A Fox cub kept running along the top of the shore on the far side in and out of cover.  The ducks were watching closely and followed it along while swimming on the water, a Lapwing pair were taking defensive action by flying a calling around it, maybe they have a nest or young nearby.
