1st June 2017 - mostly sunny, very warm again, 22C, humid, light SW

Well, here we are approaching mid-year rapidly, it feels as if it's been a good one for wildlife so far, but time will tell.

Willey; the Fox cub was again along its favourite hedge before running in to the wood this morning.  Mid-evening a Goldcrest was singing in the church yard Yew tree.  Early I spotted another 'black' looking Ladybird on my back door.  It was small, not more than 5mm, so I think it is probably a melanic 2-spot Ladybird, not another Harlequin, phone photo.

Shawell Lagoons; I had an hour here in the evening, 2 Little-ringed Plover were still present, 13 Mute Swans (no Whooper though), a few Canada Geese, the Shelduck pair, Tufted Duck and Mallard were on the water or around the shore.  About 20 Sand Martin and a couple of Swallow were feeding and drinking.  I noticed one Sand Martin swoop down and pick up a small white feather from the waters surface, no doubt for its nest.  Some 100 Lesser-black backed Gulls came in for a rest and preen before going to roost, probably at Draycote Water.

Whitethroat, a Lesser Whitethroat, Chiffchaff, Reed Bunting, Song Thrush were all singing.  3 Buzzards were overhead and a Kestrel passed by.
