8th May - steady rain until mid afternoon, then odd showers, light SW, 9C

Cotesbach Landfill;  a look here after lunch in the rain proved worthwhile. Over the sandpit water 2 Black Terns were feeding. As yesterday a movement through the country has been occurring.  On the shore line  19 Dunlin and 3 Ringed Plover were searching for food.  Obviously all brought in by the rain. A good number of Swallows, House Martins and Sand Martins were also present, 3 Red Kite, and a Shelduck pair.

Stanford Reservoir; here 2 further Black Terns and 14 Common Terns were present.  A single Dunlin flew by but did not settle.  On the dam 2 Common Sandpiper and 3 Yellow Wagtails.  A Drake Wigeon was still present close to the Leices side, where 3 Hobby were hawking.
A pair of Red-legged Partridge and Green Woodpecker were near the dam outflow grassed area.
