9th May - rain am, showers pm, cool NW, 10C

Cotesbach landfill area; I checked the sand pit here before lunch it was raining slightly which no doubt helped bring in 8 Ringed Plover and 8 Dunlin.  They were a bit nervy and kept flying around but settled eventually.  A Lapwing was again present, I suspect it's partner is incubating somewhere nearby.  5 Red Kite today. Again, a good number of Swallow, House and Sand Martin feeding over the water.

Stanford reservoir; late afternoon a look here. A Shelduck pair of the dam, no waders though.  The single drake Wigeon was still present.  10 Common Tern were over the water.

A pair of Grey Wagtails were feeding in the spill-way. On the dam were 4 Yellow Wagtails, a male was displaying frenetically to a female which was doing here best ignoring him.  On the tower a Pied Wagtail pair were collecting food for their nestlings.

Otherwise all the other usual birds were around despite the rain.
